In your Blog, describe your vision of the classroom of the future that takes full advantage of technology for student learning and teacher productivity.
To take full advantage of what technology has to offer, we must first set parameters.
1) The technology must be free, or at least covered by the employer. This includes an overhead projector in the classroom, a luxury that is so commonplace, it's not even a luxury anymore!
2) The teacher has a computer with wi-fi easily/readily accessible and/or
2a) The teacher AND the students have laptops with wi-fi in the classroom.
If 1) and 2) are the situation, here's my vision for classrooms looking to optimize their tech use:
*Teachers utilize the best websites available for generating puzzles, word searches, crosswords, brainteasers, any sort of printable puzzles. Students love to be challenged in new and unique ways. Puzzle generators, when used correctly, accomplish that goal
*Teachers make use of computer labs. With the labs, students can engage in online tutorials, research with online libraries, and participate in short one/two projects.
If 1) and 2a) are the situation, the classroom looks quite different.
*Students use their laptops to access textbooks
*Students competing in online games, like Sheppard Software. (Teachers can keep track of the high score for an exciting activity!)
*Teachers serve as facilitators more than anything else. The computers would alleviate and replace so much of the teaching process. Instead of interrupting a lesson with a question, a student would simply click "Replay" or "Help."
Obviously, technology isn't limited to laptops. It's using graphing calculators in math, electronic devices in science, and assistive technology in every classroom. Do school districts need a technology czar with tons of clout in order to ensure students are up-to-date with modern hardware/software. Only if we want to keep up with the Chinese.
