Video in the classroom? Been there, done that!

I've incorporated more videos in my classroom than all my coworkers combined. That's an exaggeration, but I really do understand the value of videos in the classroom. When I attended middle school in the mid-90's, we watched Channel 1 reports. Lisa Ling was my Walter Cronkrite, if that makes any sense.

Videos, obviously, are a double-threat - audio and visual presentations. And with our students being so Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, videos are more appreciated now than ever. I have specific sources for my videos, because not just any will do. You don't want the RIAA or some other patenting/licensing organization coming after you at school - there's enough to worry about in the classroom already.

Teachertube.com offers little but it's legit and safe for the classroom. Give that site another year before you make a judgment on it.

Youtube is hit or miss. Yes, the videos are priceless and no other website hosts as much user-generated content. But beware the comments, advertisements, recommended videos, etc. I can tell from experience... beware.

unitedstreaming.com is the database my district recommends and subscribes to. Pre-approved videos from the Discovery Channel and other TV companies. Jeff Corwin episodes abound, so it's my got my approval!
