#11 Assistive Technology

Several devices in the realm of assistive technology fascinate me. I've never dealt with students that required AT hardware, but I still need to know what's available.

Assistive Technology is anything that helps a student perform the normal daily tasks that's expected of students, such as reading a book or answering a question.

A couple devices are quite intriguing. The DynaMite is a small, portable hand-held device that speaks for students; that is, it vocalizes a student's thoughts. All the student has to do is punch in the desired words. This gadget would be perfect for students who are rendered mute from disease or sickness.

Some diseases, such as muscular distrophy, can negatively affect a student's typing skills. The alternate keyboards were invented for just that. I looked it up on Google and pasted my favorite picture.

AT is a subject that's not talked about enough in my profession, unfortunately.
